This page lists everything this website stores on your device. It is deliberately short, because there is not much: two cookies from Google Analytics and three small values this site keeps in your browser to remember what you have chosen.
Analytics starts when the page loads
We should be plain about this rather than bury it. Google Analytics starts as soon as a page on this site loads, and it sets the two cookies below at that moment. We do not ask first, and there is no banner to click through. We run it to see which pages are actually useful, relying on our legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR.
The Information Commissioner’s Office takes the view that analytics cookies are not strictly necessary and should be set only with consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. We have chosen instead to run analytics from the first visit and give you an immediate way to switch it off. We would rather tell you exactly what happens than claim to ask permission we do not ask for.
We do not run advertising. Ad personalisation and Google Signals are switched off, so nothing here feeds an advertising or cross-device profile. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an objection under Article 21 and do not measure your visit at all.

We do not use advertising, retargeting or social media tracking cookies, and we do not share these cookies with anyone for their own purposes.
Third parties that see your IP address
Separately from cookies, loading a page means your browser contacts the services that deliver parts of it, and they see your IP address as a result. Those are Google Analytics, our image and icon providers (Unsplash and Iconify), and — on pages with a video — Gumlet, whose player collects its own playback statistics and error reports. If you start filling in the contact form, ipapi.co receives your IP address once so the phone field can suggest the right dialling code. Our Privacy Policy covers each of these in more detail.
Turning cookies off in your browser
The switch above is the quickest way to stop analytics on this site. You can also block or delete cookies for any site in your browser settings, or browse in a private window. Blocking cookies entirely will not break this website, though it will forget your appearance preference each time you return.
